are brief biographical snapshots of the Board of Directors.
Wallace Judd, Ph.D,Chair
and President
Wallace
is a teacher and author who turned to the computer medium to implement
training and testing materials. After stints developing training at
Xerox PARC and Apple Computer, he formed his own training and testing
companies to implement his ideas. Thirteen years of profitable
operations resulted in the sale of both companies to Kelly Services,
where he became the first corporate Research Fellow, as well as
Vice-President of R&D. Wallace made Kelly a technological
leader in
the field of training and testing software. Upon leaving Kelly, Wallace
became director of Training Development at Netscape, which later
morphed into iPlanet in the merger between AOL and Sun Microsystems.
Following his iPlanet experience, in 2001 he founded a startup named
ASPtrain, Inc., which constructed a concurrent authoring system for the
development of internet software training. Wallace is actively
investigating innovations in the field of performance testing, adaptive
testing and performance training.
Randy Russell, Vice-Chair
and President-Elect

Randy Russell is the Director of Certification at Red Hat, Inc., the world's leading provider of open source solutions. He has overseen the development of the industry-leading Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) and Red Hat Certified Technician (RHCT) performance-based exams, as well as the performance-based Certificates of Expertise exams that lead to the Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA), Red Hat Certified Security Specialist (RHCSS), and Red Hat Datacenter Specialist (RHCDS) credentials. He also oversaw the development of Red Hat's curriculum until 2007, at which time he had the opportunity to focus on certification. Prior to joining Red Hat in 1999, Randy was a system administrator, programmer, and economist at an environmental economics consulting firm.
Tom Berry , Treasurer
Tom
has been developing technical courses, assessments, and documentation
for over twenty years on complex products ranging from biomedical
instrumentation to multiprocessing computers. He specializes in
instructional material design and development, performance-based
assessment (including high-stakes certification), and human
interface/information design. Tom holds a Master's degrees in
Electrical Engineering and undergraduate degrees in Engineering and
Neurobiology from Cornell University as well as a Master's in Education
from San Jose State. He has presented papers at the Association of Test
Publishers (ATP), the International Society for Performance Improvement
(ISPI), and the Society for Technical Communication (STC). PTC Board Chair, 2005
Cristina Goodwin, Secretary
Cristina Goodwin is a test development professional with Alpine Testing Solutions, a company that provides innovative, superior-quality testing solutions with a genuine emphasis on customer needs, service, and satisfaction. Cristina has many years professional experience in communications and exam development. Currently she is engaged on behalf of Alpine Testing Solutions with Scrum Alliance Inc., a not-for-profit organization focused on the worldwide successful adoption of Scrum principles, to help develop a new certification program. For six years she was responsible for the design and development of validated, performance-based exams for the world-wide Microsoft Office Specialist certification program. Most recently, Cristina has facilitated domain analysis and item writing workshops for large Information Technology and health organizations, as well as numerous trades associations. She has created an online training program for item writing, and created processes and procedures for developing valid, reliable and secure performance-based exams. Cristina is a founding member of the Performance Testing Council serving her second term on the board of directors.
Mike Reid,
Director
Mike has been involved in
training and certification since teaching
his first course in 1977. After starting as a classroom teacher he
turned to the IT field and built and managed computer networks in
eastern Canada for 10 years, where he was involved in early Internet
initiatives like CA*NET I as well as experimental network installations
in the region. He joined Cisco in 1997 as part of Cisco’s
expert-level
CCIE certification program, working in test design, test delivery, and
content creation. He has been managing the program since 2002, where
his goal is to champion the value of live equipment based testing. Mike
holds a bachelor’s degree in Education, as well as a B.Sc and
M.Sc in
Computer Science, and currently resides in Raleigh, NC. PTC Board Chair, 2007
Peter Childers,
Director
Peter
has been involved in computing, education, and training since the early
1980s when he worked at the Yale AI Lab. Pete holds a B.A. from Yale
and an M.A. from Duke, and has taught at Duke and at the University of
British Columbia. After leaving university for industry in the early
'90s Pete developed training and certification programs at Nortel,
NetEdge Systems (Larscom), Seagate Software (Veritas), and companies in
networking and network management. Upon joining Red Hat in 1998 Pete
saw an opportunity to create a top-tier performance-based training and
certification model for Linux. Working with Red Hat team he designed
and launched the Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) program. Pete has
guided Red Hat Global Learning Services into a leading IT training and
certification provider, offering RHCT, RHCE, specialized courses,
eLearning, and academic offerings. All dedicated to hands-on training
and performance testing. He is a member of IEEE, ASTD, SIM and other
professional societies, and serves on advisory boards at various
companies and organizations in technology and learning. PTC Board Chair, 2006
Melissa
Tuite, Director
Melissa Tuite currently
directs all certification and accreditation activities at VMWare, Inc.
Prior to VMWare, Melissa was the Director of Operations in Certification and
Skills Development for seven years at CompTIA, an IT industry trade
association. Specific areas of specialization are in exam development,
intellectual property security management, contract development, vendor
management, customer service and database administration. Melissa has
worked in the IT Certification industry for over ten
years and has significant experience in all aspects of certification
management. She has previously launched healthcare distance education
programs accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council and
obtained college credit recommendations for her programs from the
American Council on Education and DANTES. In these roles, Melissa was
recognized as the Chief Managing Officer of NAMSS Vocational College by the Tennessee
Commision on Higher Education and the Illinois State Board of
Education. Melissa has Masters in Education Psychology and Educational
Administration from Texas A&M University.

Jim DiIanni
Jim
DiIanni has over 26 years of experience in the IT industry. He is
currently the Director of the Assessment and Certification Exam
development for Microsoft Learning. He has experience with performance
testing since 1986 and has been involved in the IT certification
industry since 1997. As the Director of Certification for Oracle he
managed the design, development, and global deployment of the Oracle
Certified Master practicum, a live application performance test. Jim
has published columns about certification testing in Certification
Magazine, Professional Certification Magazine, Chief Learning Officer,
and Oracle Magazine. Jim holds a B.A. in Management Information Systems
from Eastern Washington University, an M.S. in Information Systems
Management from Seattle Pacific University, and an M.Ed. in Adult
Education from Seattle University.
Matt O'Donoghue
Matt
has approximately 20 years experience in the field of technical
training and certification. His involvement in certification and
licensure started with his U.S. Navy training and qualifications over
20 years ago followed by his FAA certified Airline Transport Pilot in
1991 and most recently achieving his Cisco Certified Network Associate
(CCNA) certification. His experience in instructional design and
certification is primarily as a participant in certifications, but over
the last 10 years he has developed technical training for Hewlett
Packard, United Defense, and Lucent Technologies prior to joining Cisco
Systems in 2000. In his role at Cisco, Matt has guided the design and
development of both training and assessment for Cisco internal
employees, partners, and customers. The assessment products built by
Matt’s team demonstrate technical knowledge and skills
through
proctored tests for the Cisco Career Certification program. Matt
introduced simulations into the Cisco certifications in 2001 and has
strived to improve performance testing in the industry. He has been
involved with the Performance Testing Council since its first meeting
in 2002 and has served as the Chairman since the organization was
founded in 2003 through 2004. Matt currently leads a team responsible
for training operations and employee development within Cisco. Matt
holds a B.S. degree in Economics from the University of California,
Davis and an M.A. in Education with a specialization in Instructional
Technology from San Jose State University.
